eATA Carnets Are Now Live in Europe

The European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland are the first countries in the ATA Carnet chain to officially implement and issue eATA Carnets marking a major milestone in the digitalization of the ATA Carnet system.

Canadian ATA Carnets used for travel to the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland will be impacted by this change.

We are currently in the Global Transition phase, which will run through 2026 and 2027. During the Global Transition Plan phase, digital and paper Carnets will both remain in use, as not all 81 member countries will be able to transition at the same time. The final phase, representing full digital implementation, is expected to begin in Q4 2027 or early 2028.

The European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland will remain flexible with paper Carnets during the transition period to help ensure a smooth transition and avoid delays or issues at the border.

Les Carnets ATA numériques sont maintenant en vigueur en Europe

L'Union européenne, le Royaume-Uni, la Norvège et la Suisse deviennent les premiers pays de la chaîne ATA à émettre officiellement des e-Carnets ATA marquant ainsi une étape importante dans la numérisation du système ATA.

Les carnets ATA canadiens utilisés pour les déplacements vers l'Union européenne, le Royaume-Uni, la Norvège et la Suisse seront touchés par ce changement.

 Nous sommes actuellement dans la phase de transition mondiale, qui s’étendra sur les années 2026 et 2027. Durant cette période, les carnets numériques et papier coexisteront, car les 81 pays membres ne pourront pas tous effectuer la transition simultanément. Le passage au « tout numérique » est prévu pour le quatrième trimestre 2027 ou le début de l’année 2028.

L'Union européenne, le Royaume-Uni, la Norvège et la Suisse maintiendront une certaine flexibilité quant à l’utilisation des carnets ATA papier pendant la période de transition afin d’assurer une transition harmonieuse et d’éviter tout retard ou problèmes à la frontière.
